Obituary for Beatrice Doris Chance

Beatrice Doris “Bea” Chance was born on May 7, 1922, and passed away very peacefully on April 25th early in the morning. She was surrounded by her Medical team and Case Manager.
Bea’s family was from Philadelphia. Her husband, Jim (James L.), was in the Navy and was stationed in San Diego, which is where they made their home. Bea and Jim lived in Carlsbad. Sadly, Jim passed away in 1994.

Bea worked with and retired from the administration division of Central School on Union Street in Encinitas. (In 1986, Central School was renamed Paul Ecke Central Elementary.)

When she retired from that position, she became involved with the community. She was a season ticket holder at the San Diego Opera and an active member of Friends of both the Encinitas and Carlsbad libraries.

Bea was an avid reader all her life. She had an amazing memory, instantly recalling the names of people and the many books discussed at Book Club.

Everyone knew Bea by her happy smile, colorful hair extensions, the pleasure she had in dressing well and wearing brightly-colored clothing. Bea never went anywhere without her bag of Candy as she loved distributing pieces of candy to everyone she met.
